Sheryl Elizabeth Yoast

Sheryl Elizabeth Yoast was born on February 5, 1962, in Fairfax Hospital--Falls Church, Virginia. She grew up in Springfield, Virginia. She attended Garfield Elementary School, Holmes Intermediate School, Thomas Jefferson High School, and graduated from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia.

Sheryl lived with her mother and her two sisters--unlike what was depicted in the movie, "Remember the Titans"--but she was an avid football fan and had a vast knowledge of the game itself. She thoroughly enjoyed following the Titans and spent much quality time with her father, Coach Yoast. Sheryl and her dad shared a remarkable father- daughter relationship. She was indeed upset when he was not given the head coaching job at T .C., and she was certainly not timid in making her feelings known.

She was a cheerleader all four years at T JHS and was crowned Homecoming queen her senior year. While attending Virginia Tech Sheryl poured her heart and soul into the Greek system; she served as Pan-Hellenic chairperson her senior year. She was a Delta Zeta

sororiety sister and was voted a "Golden Heart" in Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Upon graduating from Tech in 1984, she worked in the sales department ofa D.C.-based temporary job placement agency.

Sheryl was married in November of 1990 and then teamed up with her husband to help improve upon his business in Washington, D.C. She gave birth to a son in February of 1993 and to a daughter in December of 1995.

On April 26, 1996, she suddenly and unexpectedly collapsed from a heart malfunction. She died on Saturday, May 4, 1996. Sheryl was an amazing young woman, completely devoted to her husband, her children, her parents, her sisters, and her friends. Her powerful life has made a tremendous impact upon her family and friends. She will forever be remembered as a generous, loving person with a real passion for living, and wisdom beyond her 34 years. Sheryl's advice was ALWAYS "follow your heart"-and she did just that.
