Hazel Jarret
and Julius Campbells second child, Julius, was born at
Alexandria Hospital in Alexandria, Virginia. He has one older
sister Debra, a younger brother Derrick, and two younger sisters
Darlene and Donna. Julius grew up in Alexandria in the area
known as the Berg. He went to Lyles Crouch Elementary
for grades 1-5. He also attended Robert E. Lee (6), Minne Howard
(7) and John Adams Middle School (8). Julius was a student at
T.C. Williams High School his Freshman through Senior years,
graduating in 1973.
After High School,
Julius attended Ferrum Junior College where a bad ankle injury,
which did not heal properly, ended his football career. Julius
returned to Alexandria and worked in the school system, until
starting his career as an Animal Control Officer, first in Alexandria
and then in Prince Georges County, Maryland.
Julius began
playing football in the 8th grade on the Freshman Team for T.
C. Williams High School. He moved up to Varsity and became a
fixture at defensive end starting his sophomore year. As a senior,
in addition to being on the All American Team, he was selected
for the All District, All Metro and All State teams. He was
the leading voter for the All State Team, and was named that
teams honorary Captain. The Alexandria Journal named him the
Most Valuable Defensive Player for the 1972 football season.
His jersey has been retired at T.C. Williams.
In addition to
the support from his father, who attended every game and always
encouraged Julius to do his best, three teachers and two coaches
influenced Julius life. Ms Donnely, Ms Boginio, and Mr
Trice encouraged Julius to do his best in school while Coach
Ferman and Coach Yoast taught him about football and life.
Julius still
lives in Prince Georges County, and has one daughter Sharron
Murray. He spends a lot of time with his father and his granddaughter
Rejan. Unfortunately, his mother and brother passed before the
release of Remember The Titans, but he enjoys living near his
friends, family and teammates. |
