Jerome Addison
Buck (Jerry) was born in Charleston, South Carolina to John Addison
and Betty Coyl Buck. Being the son of a Naval Officer, Jerry
moved all over the United States and the world as a young man.
He attended Nile C. Kinnick High School (Yo-Hi) in Yokohama,
Japan his freshman and first half of his sophomore year. At Yo-Hi
he played football and wrestled, earning the Most Guts
award in Football. He enrolled at T. C. Williams High School
after the Christmas holidays of his 10th grade year. He graduated
from T.C. Williams Senior High School in 1972. While attending
TC he participated in Football, Wrestling, Crew, Golf and occasionally
put the Shot for the Track Team. He was awarded the Best
Blocker Award in Football his Junior and Senior years.
In 1992 along with four of his teammates from the 1971 Championship
team, Jerry was named as a member of the Northern Virginia Dream
Team.
Four people played
big roles in Jerrys development as an athlete and as a
person while in High School. Three of them were football Coaches
and one was a young lady. Coach Roy Clumpner, his first Varsity
Football Coach at Nile C. Kinnick High School in Yokohama, Japan
taught how hard you had to work to be a champion and how to constantly
strive to reach ones fullest potential. He also taught
him the basic skills of football, which would always stay with
him. Coach Herman Boone his head coach, Senior year at T.C. Williams,
taught him what it meant to play on a team and what it took to
be a leader of the team both on and off the field. Coach Paul
Hines, his position coach, inspired him to play his best. His
unique teaching, coaching and leadership made all the men who
played for him better athletes and better people. He taught us
to play hard, but play smart. Selfless teamwork and collective
pride make positive thinking and victory habitual. Finally, Miss
Michal Patten kept him focused on the importance of school and
education. To her, they were only games and as long as he did
is very best she was proud, win or lose.
Jerry attended
the United States Naval Academy graduating with a Bachelor of
Science degree in Engineering in 1976. His senior year he was
the Captain of the Naval Academy Rugby Team. Jerry was commissioned
as an Ensign in the United States Navy. He served as a Surface
Warfare Officer in various Cruises, Destroyers and operational
staffs in the Pacific Fleet, making several deployments to the
Pacific and Indian Oceans. Ashore, he received his Masters Degree
in Weapons Systems Engineering and served two tours in Washington
DC. He retired from the Navy in 1996 and now works as a Senior
Systems Engineer for Computer Systems Center (CSCI) in Springfield,
Virginia. His current work is primarily focused on the Tomahawk
Land Attack Weapons System.
In 1984 he married
the very beautiful Aja Om from Pearl City, Hawaii. They have
one daughter Coria Leilani Buck, born in 1988. They currently
live in Springfield, Virginia. |
