Dave Stewart
was born in Tallahassee, Florida in April 1954. His father was
with the U.S. Department of Interior and the family traveled
from Florida to New York before moving to Alexandria, Virginia
in 1966.
He enrolled at
J. F. Hammond in the fall of 1968 and played junior varsity football
as defensive tackle. He was also a member of the wrestling team
and track team. In 1969, as a sophomore he started at right guard
and received a Varsity letter on the 1969 Northern Virginia AAA
Regional Football Championship team.
In 1971 the City
of Alexandria enacted an ordinance that brought together the
junior and senior classes of all the city high schools and set
in motion the groundwork for what would be THE ORIGINAL TITANS.
More than seventy young men tried out for the Varsity football
team at T. C. Williams High School in August of 1971. Dave joined
a diverse group of teenagers from around the city that became
the offensive line for the undefeated AAA Virginia State High
School Football Champions. He was the starting right guard (#
68) for the thirteen games that season.
Following graduation
from high school in 1972, he attended Virginia Commonwealth University
and was accepted into the Medical College of Virginia in 1977.
He received his M.D. in June 1981 and left for Phoenix, Arizona
to begin his residency at Good Samaritan Medical Center in the
Department of Family Practice. He served as Chief Resident and
graduated in 1984.
Dave has been
in private practice in Mesa, Arizona since 1984. He has served
as Chief of Medical Staff, as well as Chairman of the Department
of Family Practice at Valley Lutheran Hospital. He continues
to sit on the Executive Committee of the hospital as American
Medical Association Hospital Staff Representative and Past Chief
of Staff. He is active in the local community through involvement
